After the closure of Ai Hoa Market in 2019, Chinatown lost its last full-service grocery store. Since then, residents have had to travel as far as San Gabriel by bus to buy fresh produce, rice noodles, and specialty cuts of meat. Ai Hoa Market often catered to low-income Latino or Asian immigrants with its affordable prices and good-quality fresh vegetables. Ai Hoa Market provided customers the option to buy rice by the cup for immediate consumption, rather than in large bags. This is particularly helpful for those without cars, as the cup packaging is easier to carry on public transit like buses.Although Yue Wa Market and Majestic Poultry serve as alternatives by offering affordable fruits, vegetables, and fresh chicken; however, being non-full-service grocery stores, they provide minimal options. These smaller stores change their items weekly, making it challenging for customers to plan meals ahead. This impacts poor, elderly immigrants without cars significantly, as full-service grocery stores are farther away and less accessible. The absence of a Chinese grocery store in Chinatown significantly impacts the community's cultural and economic livelihood. Without a thriving grocery store, particularly the elderly immigrant residents face challenges in accessing affordable groceries, creating what is described as a food desert in the area.

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
