A Jyotirlinga (Sanskrit: ज्योतिर्लिङ्ग, romanized: Jyotirliṅga, lit. 'lingam of light') or Jyotirlingam, is a devotional representation of the Hindu god Shiva. The word is a Sanskrit compound of jyotis ('radiance') and linga ('sign'). According to a <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaivism' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'> Shaiva </a> legend from the Shiva Purana, once, <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brahma' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'> Brahma </a> (the god of creation) and <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vishnu' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'> Vishnu </a> (the god of preservation) had an argument over their supremacy. To settle the debate, <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiva' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'> Shiva </a> pierced the three worlds, appearing as a huge, infinite pillar of light, the jyotirlinga. Brahma and Vishnu decided to ascend and descend across a pillar of light respectively, to find the end of the light in either direction. According to some iterations, Vishnu assumed his <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varaha' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'> Varaha </a> avatar to achieve this task, while Brahma rode a <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamsa_(bird)' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'> hamsa </a> (swan). Brahma lied that he had discovered the end of the light, producing a ketakī flower as proof, while Vishnu admitted that he could not find the end of the light from his journey. The dishonesty of Brahma angered Shiva, causing him to curse the creator deity that he would not be worshipped; he also declared that Vishnu would be eternally worshipped for his honesty. The jyotirlinga shrines are regarded to be the temples where Shiva appeared as a fiery column of light.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
