Few items have the ability to capture the imagination in the same way as ancient Greek pottery. The style of these vessels is timeless, and instantly recognizable, even to an untrained eye. This could certainly be attributed to the broad use of figurative Greek vase imagery being used in movies, books and even mimicked by designers of modern vases, but perhaps the true appeal of Greek pottery lies in the insight which it provides into the past. One such captivating vase lies in the British Museum: a red-figure Athenian cup attributed to the painter Douris and found in Italy in 1843 (<a href='https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/G_1843-1103-94' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'>British Museum</a>). Eleven figures decorate the outside and inside of this cup, inviting the viewer in for a closer look and deeper contemplation. What can this vase tell us about ancient life? How did the vase travel from Athens to Italy, and why? Modern-day observers may never know what lively conversation these figures were having, but perhaps by asking questions, we can also join the conversation.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
