The face of every city, town, and rural community today is a reflection of both its successes and scars accumulated since its founding. The following tale may best be commenced with the old familiar phrase once upon a time. This is the story of how Albert A. Hastings contributed to the mythology of North Platte, Nebraska&apos;s Little Chicago years. The story of his life is a mixture of myth, intrigue, and occasionally a glimpse of fact most of which is gleaned thorough the hazy lens of circumstantial evidence. Albert Hastings&apos; life sometimes seems to mirror that of Omaha&apos;s infamous crime and political boss, Thomas Dennison. Similar to the events surrounding the Omaha lynching of Will Brown in September 1919, perhaps one of the deepest scars Albert Hastings inflicted on North Platte was through his alleged involvement in the 1929 forced exodus of North Platte&apos;s African American population following the murder of a local police officer by a black man. The infamous North Platte race riot smeared the integrity of the citizens of North Platte nationwide. While the incident has largely been forgotten by the locals, the Great Plains town never completely shook off the fallout.

This story includes several of the pieces you might use in your own story–like paragraphs, buttons, separators, and more. To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. Try changing the paragraph font, and see what happens to this text.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
