The French left nobody responsible without consequences; these Malagasy people wanted freedom from France, but the uprising was dismissed abruptly. Here is an analytical summary of the Malagasy Uprising. &quot;The recent disorders in Madagascar have now been followed by the arrest of three Malagasy members of the council of the republic.&quot; (Guardian, Manchester, &quot;Madagascar,&quot; 1947, Page 1) The start of the uprising, titled &quot;disorders&quot; by the UK and French, was community anger due to the heavy taxation, disregard for Malagasy culture, forced labor, and power given to the French over natives. The Malagasy was completely controlled by the French, and had nothing to themselves; the tension was rising, and rebellion was long overdue for the natives. Soon, the Mouvement Démocratique de la Rénovation Malgache (MDRM) nationalist party was formed. &quot;Revolts in Madagascar may be little known abroad, but they are bloody.&quot; (Defender, Chicago &quot;Malagasy, An Island of Tension (1946, Page 2). As quoted just before the known Malagasy uprising, the tension on the island was truly prolific. On the evening of March 27th, 1947, the Malagasy attacked. With their spears, they coordinated attacks on French plantations and military bases on the eastern side of Madagascar with a group of thousands that would soon rise to over 1 million, which was about 15% of their population.
