New York city was formed by the 1898 consolidation of its five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island, and has been the most populated city in the United States ever since, serving as the country’s capital from 1785 until 1790 (US Census Bureau, 2024). In recent decades, the city has been subject to gentrification. Gentrification is the process of altering a neighbourhood&apos;s characteristics by bringing in more affluent residents and businesses, subsequently raising housing and living costs, often displacing disadvantaged residents (Freeman &amp; Braconi, 2004). In more recent years, green gentrification has become of an issue, a process seen as a result of altering a neighborhood’s environmental characteristics, or more formally known as, Urban greening. Urban greening is prominent in city planning agendas worldwide and is ascribed a diverse set of names, including urban forests, green space, nature-based solutions, and green infrastructure (Quinton et al., 2022). Green gentrification is defined as new or intensified urban socio-spatial inequalities produced by said urban greening agendas and interventions (Planas-Carbonell et al., 2023). As sustainability planning and green city planning agendas becomes more of a common language that many corporate investors, public officials, and planners use to discuss environmentally conscious projects (Gibbs and Krueger, 2007), one must wonder if the urban greening seen within New York City’s most vulnerable boroughs, such as Brooklyn, can cause damaging green gentrification, possibly creating and/or heightening social issues.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
