Pancho Villa is a controversial figure in United States and Mexican history. He emerged as a key leader of the revolution, particularly in the northern regions of Mexico. Villa was known for his bold tactics and a strong following among peasants and working-class Mexicans. His "División del Norte" was a formidable revolutionary army. Villa's involvement in the Mexican Revolution, which occurred from 1910 to 1917, was marked by his commitment to land reform and improving the conditions of the poor and marginalized. He fought against the authoritarian rule of Porfirio Díaz and later played a significant role in the overthrow of President Victoriano Huerta.On March 9, 1916, Villa led a raid on Columbus, New Mexico, due to the U.S. supporting his rival and the belief that he needed more supplies. The result was the death of 18 Americans and hundreds of Villa's men, as detailed in a brief TikTok lesson by a creator named “laweifotos.” In another TikTok by Jose Morales, Villa's attack was seen as a heroic revolutionary act by some, while others were critical of his actions, particularly the loss of innocent lives during the raid.

This story includes several of the pieces you might use in your own story–like paragraphs, buttons, separators, and more. To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
