Im Frühjahr 2025 jährt sich das Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges in Europa zum 80. Mal. Die Ausstellung „Befreit in Leipzig 1945“ lässt Zwangsarbeiter:innen und Überlebende zu Wort kommen und richtet so den Blick auf ihre Perspektiven und Erfahrungen.  Am 18. April 1945 erreichten US-Truppen Leipzig. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt befanden sich zehntausende ausländische Zwangsarbeiter:innen in der Stadt: zivile Zwangsarbeiter:innen, Kriegsgefangene und KZ-Gefangene, die die Deutschen aus ganz Europa zur Arbeit nach Leipzig verschleppten hatten. Einige von ihnen schrieben während ihrer Zwangsarbeit und auch nach ihrer Befreiung Tagebuch, oder sie schickten Briefe an Angehörige und Freund:innen. Manche fotografierten ihren Alltag oder verarbeiteten das Erlebte künstlerisch, schufen Zeichnungen oder Gedichte. Und wieder andere versuchten Beweise und Zeugnisse zu sichern, um nach dem Krieg über die Verbrechen berichten zu können. Noch Jahrzehnte später fanden ihre Erinnerungen Eingang in autobiografische Romane und Interviewprojekte.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look.
