Welcome to The Roman Empire: the Masters of Propaganda, a fascinating exploration in how ancient Rome used art as a way to project an image of strength and authority across the empire and beyond. This exhibit will take you into the world of ancient Rome to explore how sculptures and artifacts functioned as visual tools for messaging, power, and authority. You will see that this exhibit is not organized chronologically, but instead, it is organized by theme as it is important to note that the messaging remained consistent no matter the period in question.  This exhibit is organized into specific sections of interest:<ul><li>Faces and Sculptures: This section focuses on the faces – the busts and sculptures of emperors, generals and the military. The Romans had a very specific way of sculpting art which allowed them to express the far reaching influence and control they held. One of the key ways they conveyed strength in their art was through the creation of enormous sculptures that became a representation of them as an imperial power. These large busts and sculptures did not just symbolize the power of the ruler, but they also symbolized the considerable power and force of their military. Figures such as Augustus of Primaporta who is portrayed as both a leader and a god-like figure, which serves to elevate his status and cement his place as an authority figure. Roman sculptures that represented authority were echoed by their sheer size. The Colossal Head of Constantine stands at over two meters in height for the head alone and in its original form, the body stood at over 12 meters in height! These sculptures ranged from busts and solo standing figures to massive structures that were deliberately crafted to emphasize their imperial power. </li></ul>

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
