Blue and white porcelain first emerged during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), however, it did not become a world famous product until the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). There were other varieties of porcelain but the blue and white was especially popular in other countries. It became so popular that other cultures began to imitate the underglaze blue style. The process of making porcelain and the materials it was made of was a close kept secret of China for centuries, and the clay porcelain is made from was not available in many regions outside of China. When other countries tried to recreate the luxurious blue and white wares, they often lacked true porcelain's translucence and strength. The object to the left is an underglaze blue porcelain vase from the Ming Dynasty. This vase, and other authentic blue and white porcelain objects, are filled with decorative motifs and patterns that carry symbolic meanings in Chinese culture. For instance, the banana leaves on the neck represent success, and the clouds on the body symbolize the heavens. These motifs have been used in Chinese art for well over a millennium and they still hold great importance in Chinese culture in the present.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
