Rechargeable Lithium batteries are found in every iPhone and smartphone in the world. Not only can they be found in the devices we carry in our pockets and purses everyday, but they can be found in tablets, laptops, and even electric vehicles. Lithium is a highly sought after mineral which is necessary for lithium batteries, hence the name, but with this demand comes a dark and unethical side of its mining practices. In an effort to have a greener world to combat climate change, lithium batteries have become a popular alternative, and this rise in demand has also caused a rise in unethical practices. In Zimbabwe, many miners work in one of 7 industrial grade mines, but there are thousands of people working in unregulated mining sites, using less then ideal tools, for very low wages. Non profits, such as Global Witness, have reported concerns for exploitative labor practices. These can include unsafe working conditions and child labor. Mining companies also presented contracts to relocate families living near mining sites for only around $1900. Any unwilling families had their homes forcibly destroyed and were told they would not receive any compensation. Many Chinese companies have found loopholes not only in Zimbabwe, but in other countries such as Namibia and The Democratic Republic of Congo, which allow them to set up shell companies to acquire licenses that allow them to ignore some environmental regulations.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. Try changing the paragraph font, and see what happens to this text.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
