Where are the stories about the respected community leaders, the honored grandmothers, the guardians of our culture and spirit? The history of the Choctaw Nation is a mostly a story about men told by male historians. Men are the ones who served as Washington delegates, who negotiated life-changing treaties, who delivered the sermons in the churches.Even the women historians such as the highly esteemed Angie Debo and Clara Sue Kidwell tell our vast complex history from the male viewpoint. In Kidwell's 380-page history "The Choctaws in Oklahoma," she mentions only a handful of minor female names, the most prominent being Rebecca Burney (sister of Benjamin Crooks Burney, Chickasaw Chief 1878-1880), Anna Guy (sister of William Guy, Chickasaw Chief 1886-1888), and Malvina Pitchlynn (daughter of William B. Pitchlynn, niece of Choctaw Chief Peter P. Pitchlynn 1864-1865).

This story includes several of the pieces you might use in your own story–like paragraphs, buttons, separators, and more. To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. Try changing the paragraph font, and see what happens to this text.

Quotes use the theme’s title font, but you can also choose one of several different styling options.

Your theme’s accent color is used in both quotes (see above) and separators (below). If you add an express map to your story, your drawn features will use the accent color too.
