According to the Bay Area Economic Institute&apos;s report from March 2024, in the Bay Area, 65% of White households and 62% of Asian or Pacific Islander households own their homes. Conversely, 35% of Black households and 42% of Hispanic/Latinx households own their homes. The per capita median income for White Bay Area residents is also nearly 2x higher than median incomes for Hispanic/Latinx, Indigenous, and Black residents. Palo Alto&apos;s census from 1950 shows that the city was 96.2% White, 2.1% Black, and 1.7% other races. In 2020, Palo Alto was 48.7% White, 2.04% Black, 34% Asian, 7% Hispanic, 7% Multi-racial. Part of the reason for this lack of change in the Black demographic is due to a history of housing discrimination as well as a lack of affordable housing and gentrification in other areas of the Bay Area. The median price for single-family homes sold in Palo Alto in 2024 was $3.63 million which is a 7% increase compared to last year according to Palo Alto Online. Some key points in time that reflect the racial environment of Palo Alto, includes the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce passing a resolution calling for a “segregated district for the Oriental and colored people of the city&quot; in 1920. Although this resolution did not pass, it was supported by local politicians as well as the Palo Alto Weekly. In 1943, Palo Alto’s local NAACP branch reported that the city’s Black population had almost doubled during World War Two – yet only ten additional houses were available for these new citizens.  A 1952 survey by the Palo Alto Fair Play Council reported that only 68 Palo Altans polled would rent to people of good character regardless of race while 198 would rent to Caucasians only.

After one year, you will need to purchase an ArcGIS Online subscription to continue using ArcGIS StoryMaps. Check out the StoryMaps <link>retirement page</link> for more information on the ArcGIS Online subscription options.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
