History of the Municipality of UlqinUlqin (Ulcinj), Montenegro, boasts a rich archaeological heritage that reflects its long and diverse history. The municipality has been inhabited since ancient times, with evidence of Illyrian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman influences. Archaeological sites throughout Ulqin—including ancient forts, medieval churches, mosques, and historic bridges—provide a window into the region&apos;s complex past. This rich tapestry of cultural layers underscores Ulqin&apos;s significance as a historical crossroads and a vibrant center of commerce and culture through the ages.One of the most famous sites in the municipality is the archaeological site of Shas (Šas), located near Lake Shas in the center of the municipality. Shas is a significant historical location that has revealed much about the region's past. Excavations at Shas were first conducted in 1985 by a team of archaeologists led by <a href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%90or%C4%91e' rel='nofollow ugc'>Đorđe</a> Jankovi<a href='https://www.apotekajankovic.rs/' rel='nofollow ugc'>ć</a> from the Center for Archaeological Research in Belgrade, with subsequent excavations by Mladen Zagarčanin in 2012 and by Mitra Cerović in 2016. These excavations uncovered abundant remains of a medieval town—including churches, fortifications, and residential buildings—but also much earlier occupations from the Iron Age, Bronze Age, and potentially the Neolithic period. Such findings at Shas provide valuable insights into the history of the broader area now comprising the Ulqin Municipality and its cultural and historical development.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
