Nashoba translates to "the place between water." This area was converted to an Indian praying village and is located between Fort Pond and Nagog Pond. This location was ideal for the Nipmuc. Each pond offered a surplus of fish and easy transportation. Surrounding the lake there were hunting grounds and suitable land for hardy crops. The Nipmuc seasonally rotated their hunting grounds and farm lands. This allowed the soil to regain nutrients and the animals to repopulate.There is a legend that a tentacled monster called Piasa lives in Fort Pond. The legend says it dragged its tentacles along the shores and ate people. Legends about the original state of historical sites such as these are not commonly discussed in Littleton today.&nbsp;The first Indian Praying Village, Natick, was established in 1651. The man responsible for this cultural ambush was John Elliot. Elliot was a missionary who believed by erasing the indigenous culture and imposing an English way of life, the Indigenous could be “reformed”. The Algonquian people survived on their own for thousands of years. They fished and traveled the Quinobequin river. The English colonists saw the river as a resource they had to take advantage of. It was renamed the Charles River. Once the praying village was established The Algonquian people were forced to renounce all of their cultural traditions and practices. The Algonquians were additionally forced to take on puritan beliefs and live under English law. This would be the first of 14 praying villages.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
