You may have seen a different spelling or heard an alternative pronunciation for the Ganga, such as "The Ganges River" (gahn-gees). This is in fact a Western and whitewashed correction to the original Hindi name for the holy body of water. With this in mind, coming from a Hindu and Indian background, I find it is my duty to use the correct name and spelling for this project. I will not be using the British version although it is in official dictionaries, because this would be a disservice to my country. Although called a river, this body of water is vast and spans its' neighboring country and stretches far and wide. According to Wikipedia, this river has a length of 1,560 miles starting in the north by the Himalayas and goes further down all the way to Bangladesh (Wikipedia).
