The European Legal Revolution of the twelfth century as described by the scientific historian, Toby Huff, was the critical step that was needed to propel Europe on the path to advanced scientific discovery and to a standardized, specialized, education system. The revolution as described by Huff, began with the rise of the parliamentary democracy and with the development of a new economic system. The invention, acceptance, and implementation of these new ideas was what became the demonstrable difference between the European, Islamic, and Chinese civilizations.As Huff describes the importance of the new parliamentary system as a form of government, he highlights three components that were critical to the successful implementation of the new system of governance. These components were “(1)…the creation of a new legal science and… (common law); (2) the creation of new collective actors and entities, and (3) the discovery and articulation of due process of law (The Rise of Early Modern Science : Islam, China, and the West, 112.)”. The first of these components, legal science and common law, owe their existence in pre-modern Europe to the Roman Empire. The old system was reworked by medieval scholars with the goal of removing contradictions and the first formal step of this can be seen in the Christian monk Gratian’s work, Harmony of Discordant Canons, issued in 1140. Gratin’s work is made up of 3,800 texts and became the basis of teaching canon law in European universities.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
