Between 1910 and 1970, almost 6 million African Americans moved in two waves from the southern to the northern United States, mostly to avoid racism and to find better employment opportunities. This movement is known as the Great Migration. Two types of forces affected this migration: push and pull factors. Prejudice, discrimination, and unfavorable employment opportunities in the South were powerful push forces; conversely, the North's more amiable and open culture served as a powerful pull factor. This event mainly impacted cities like New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Pittsburgh.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
