The Columbian Exchange and Triangular Trade
The city of Constantinople fell to the Ottoman and European trade routes to Asia closed. That was in the year 1453. But in the year 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed to the Americas. He thought he was in Asia but he was in the Americas.
The food traded during this time was turkey, pumpkins, bananas, grapes, and way more. This was a great way for these food to spread to all of these places. They were all a great source of food for the people.
The impacts that were brought were the diets of people were getting better. But the bad thing was that the Europeans were bringing diseases over with them while there was trade. This led to huge outbreaks of these diseases
Mercantilism is a system which European colonial powers, led by France, Spain and Great Britain, tried to use their colonies to improve their economies and become self-sufficient.
The trade happening during this time was called the triangle trade. This is the trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. This was an important event that helped change how people were living.
