Colonialism has played a significant role in the changes of the Pacific Islands,  both socially and culturally. To this day, various changes continue to affect the Pacific Islands. In this article, I will be explaining the sexualization of women of the Pacific. I will be expanding on the sexualization of women in the Pacific, drawing on evidence from sources such as the Pacific Muse and Haunani Trask. Additionally, I will be providing specific examples to emphasize the commonness of how colonialism has effected women of the Pacific. To begin with, we have to understand how gender is perceived in the lens of the colonist and Western gaze. For example, in the ibook, the United States military feminized Guam and its indigenous people to maintain and establish its masculine hegemony on the island. That is one example of how the West perceives the Pacific to not lose that “masculine” power. This phenomenon also resulted in the Western society&apos;s tendency to objectify and sexualize the concept of femininity as it pertains to Pacific women. By understanding this, we are able to delve into various aspects pertaining to the negative impact that colonization has had on women in the Pacific.

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
