In Monterrey, 46% of trips are currently made by car, and with the population expected to double by 2040, the demand for transportation and housing will inevitably rise. The current trend in new housing developments in Monterrey tends to favor homogenous and sparse single-family homes, which are often disconnected from the city’s transportation networks, public services, and business districts. This study investigates the challenges affecting transportation and social integration of Monterrey’s peripheral areas with the central metropolitan core, as well as the local factors influencing the growing population and developers to establish themselves in these peripheral zones. To achieve this, the study will include a review of existing academic literature, specifically examining efficient transportation networks and housing models in rapidly growing cities, and historical research analysis, alongside qualitative and quantitative methods. Understanding the historical and social factors that have led the city to its current state is essential for effectively addressing issues such as the inadequacy of the public transportation system, insufficiency of affordable housing in dense and effectively connected developments, and the resulting social isolation in outlying areas, as well as for planning to prevent further strain on transportation and housing infrastructure amid rapid population growth.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
