FIRST manager Mark Querna received a grant from the <a href='https://mnsoybean.org/msrpc/' target='_blank' rel='nofollow ugc noopener noreferrer'>Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council </a>(MNSRPC) in 2023 to install and evaluate a near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) sensor onboard a research combine for measuring protein and oil content of soybeans in the field. The following is an interactive look at how the NIRS instrument was installed and its use in the 2023 FIRST Minnesota trials soybean plots. Results comparing the on-combine sensor to benchtop laboratory sensor measurements are presented, with promising results for protein content monitoring.
