Through spending a semester learning about the history of the United States up until 1877, I was able to gain a new perspective on issues today. Understanding the history of the United States enabled me to map current issues back to their roots from 200 years ago. One example of this is racism. Racism is defined as &quot;any activity by individuals, groups, institutions, or cultures that treats human beings unjustly because of color, physical features, and ethnicity and rationalizes that treatment by attributing to them undesirable biological, psychological, social, or cultural characteristics.&quot; Racism is still a pressing issue in the United States today. Much of racism today is not tangible, making it harder to counter-act. In order to understand why racism is the way it is today, we must map it back almost 600 years ago from the Atlantic Slave Trade to modern day.

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
