Table 1 shows the geological timescales from oldest to most recent. This shows the carboniferous era occurred between 290Ma and 360Ma when the world was in a different position. Around this time the modern United Kingdom (UK) was located closer to the equator in a supercontinent called Gondwana and Laurasia (Rogers and Santosh, 2004). This region was mainly shallow tropical waters which was abundant with life similar to a modern coral reef. However this region was prone to storm events which caused mass loss of life in swampy environments leading to high volumes of fossils (Toghill, 2005). The locations explored show what the climate was like at this region millions of years ago. The Peak District would fit within the Caledonian mountain range before continental drift occurred. This lead to many sedimentary rock outcrops with similar deposition patterns to Northern America. Alongside this the peak district sits on an anticline which has caused erosion down to the limestone due to the folding of the beds (figure 1).

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
