I sat down with my grandma one afternoon to talk about our ancestors in Jamaica. As she sipped her tea, she began to share the history of Jamaica with me. She told me about the indigenous Taino people who inhabited the island before the arrival of European colonizers, and how the brutal colonization and exploitation by the Spanish disrupted their way of life. She spoke of the arrival of who she believed to be Nigerian slaves who were brought to Jamaica to work on sugar plantations, enduring unimaginable hardships and cruelty. My grandma also talked about the lasting impact of slavery, racism, and imperialism on Jamaica today. She explained how the legacy of colonialism still looms large, with entrenched systems of inequality and poverty that disproportionately impact Black Jamaicans. She shared stories of how racism continues to affect her own experiences and those of others in Jamaica, highlighting the need for ongoing efforts to address these deeply rooted issues. As we continued our conversation, I gained a deeper understanding of Jamaica&apos;s complex history and its people&apos;s ongoing struggles.

This story includes several of the pieces you might use in your own story–like paragraphs, buttons, separators, and more. To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. Your theme’s accent color is used in both quotes (see above) and separators (below). If you add an express map to your story, your drawn features will use the accent color too.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
