The overall goal of this project is to help the citizens of Syracuse further interact with their communal history. While Syracuse may only be a small suburb overshadowed by Antelope Island and Ogden nearby, its historic significance remains equally important to how the land developed. Historical markers allow people to interact with the historical location, gain a better understanding of their community’s past, and help connect the significance of time and place. While these buildings commemorated may not be standing today, these historical markers act as conversation pieces - they open doors for communication and allow passersby to celebrate and interact with their past. We would also like to acknowledge that not all of the historical sites in Syracuse were able to have markers placed. The markers that are listed on this interactive map are the finished, fully installed signs placed throughout Syracuse. However, it is our future goal to install historical markers at other influential or historical Syracuse locations. If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
