The terrain of Italy, with its strong climatic, geomorphological, and cultural differentiation, vastly expands the challenges to creating sustainable water programs. Towns and villages in Italy are located in historical centers, millenary cities, on the coast, perched in peaks, in Alpine cities, and islands. Ancient water distributions systems a part of the Roman aqueduct connect to more recent systems to serve the residents and the many more tourists of Italy. ASTERRA’s patented Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology for pipeline assessment, leak detection and infrastructure assessment are used to alleviate these challenges and drive sustainable water programs.We reached out to Massimo Ramazzotto, the operational director for 2f Water Venture S.R.L, ASTERRA’s Italian channel partner to learn more about the complexities involved in the resolution of water leaks in Italy. Ramazzotto said, “Working in historical contexts consists in entering the urban and cultural heart of a city. In Italy, each city has unique characteristics from an architectural, gastronomic, and cultural point of view. Each city has its own particularities and artistic riches, which makes maintenance work often logistically complex. The flooring alone is often years old and every intervention must be weighed up. The pipelines are, as a consequence, often deteriorated and in need of urgent maintenance interventions.” In fact, the walls and floors are often decades and even centuries old.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
