The 90th Illinois Infantry, "Chicago's Irish Legion", were one of the most significant ethnic "green-flag" regiments to serve in the American Civil War's Western Theater. Mustered into service in September 1862, by November 1863 the Illinois Irishmen were serving as part of William Tecumseh Sherman's Army of the Tennessee. That month saw them engage in what was to that point far and away their bloodiest battle- the assault on Missionary Ridge, outside Chattanooga, Tennessee. In October 2023 I had the privilege to be shown around locations associated with the regiment's actions there by James Ogden, Chief Historian of the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. This StoryMap recreates that tour with Jim, following in the footsteps of the 90th Illinois through images and video.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. Try changing the paragraph font, and see what happens to this text.
