Have you noticed the sound of the subway when it operates during the elevated section? As a maniac of subway, I paid a lot of attention to this sophisticated but chaotic transportation system in NYC. Only two lines (train E and R) of all the 28 lines in NYC are fully underground. In the rest 26 lines, except train A which operates in the open air (just between 3 stations) in Manhattan, all the elevated sections are out of this island, in Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn. I walked along the line of train 7 from 46 Street Station to Junction Blvd, along which are all elevated stations, to observe the sound in this area as well as the impact of elevated railway on the local communities. The noise of the subway mainly comes from the friction between the rail and the carriage wheel. The friction creates the vibration through the air and the steel body of the carriage to disseminate. Different from the underground, the elevated section is supported by a steel overpass without any soundproofing measures. The vibration is exposed in the air and suffered by surrounding neighbors. The sounds of the train become part of their life. There are many different religious and cultural activities on weekend in Jackson Heights, a diverse region. Korean, Chinese, Mexican, Vietnamese, Venezuelan, and Tibetan are gathering here.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
