Irvington, New Jersey, previously a part of Newark, is estimated to be populated by 59,977 people reported on July 1, 2023, with 10.2% percent of Hispanic or Latine citizens as found on the census. Throughout the last 15 years, Irvington has seen an increase of Hispanic/ Latine people and its impact on the community; through its education system, businesses, and language, Irvington has become more inclusive and welcoming towards its growing Hispanic / Latine citizens of Central Americans, and Carribeans. Yet even though the Hispanic / Latine population is not all from one country, the mix of different cultures but similar experiences and language allows the members to create a sense of belonging, familiarity, and community amongst each other. In the academic article &quot;Fitting into a more appealing diaspora than my own: Positioning Ecuadorian and Honduran migrants within the Newark-area, Portuguese-centric diaspora community of Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A&quot; author Anne Ambler Schluter writes about the Newark area and its growing Ecuadorian and Honduran population and how the mix supports each other&apos;s cultures. Schluter writes, &quot;As various diaspora groups often live together within this context (Deumert and Mabandla, 2013), relationships between these groups also help shape individual experiences. Horizontal assimilation is the act of orienting to a different marginalized group (usually within the same community) instead of the dominant group or the heritage group&quot; (Schluter 1). Moving from one home country to a new environment with different expressions, languages, and communities can be challenging to get accustomed to. However, with the shared experiences and similarities to other Hispanic / Latine people, there is comfort and the knowledge one is not alone, especially through the support of community businesses and people. In this presentation, one will see how Irvington, like other New Jersey Cities, is starting to support its growing Hispanic / Latine population through its establishments, language, and sense of belonging/ community.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
