Throughout the 1940s and even into the 1960s, the Soviet Union aimed to spread its communist influence across the globe. However, their communist ideals clashed with Western notions of democracy, ultimately leading to growing tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union. These tensions manifested themselves in the Cold War, a battle between conflicting perspectives, which lasted from 1947 to the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. While the conflict was primarily between the United States and Soviet Union, other nations were dragged into the Cold War, one such state being Cuba. Cuba was already undergoing its own domestic affairs, a notable one being the Cuban Revolution. Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were both important figureheads during this nationalistic movement, aiming to overthrow Fulgencio Batista (Cuba&apos;s dictator at the time) and take over power in the Cuban government. However, Cuba was one of the only nations that the Soviet Union could influence in the Western Hemisphere, hence why it played such a big role in events such as the Bay of Pigs invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis. After the failed Bay of Pigs invasion by the United States, Castro revealed himself as a Marxist-Leninist and allied himself with the Soviet Union in exchange for economic and militia support (American Experience). Soviet influence can be seen during and after the Cuban Revolution as the new Cuban government led by Castro restructured itself to align more with communist principles.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. Quotes use the theme’s title font, but you can also choose one of several different styling options.

Your theme’s accent color is used in both quotes (see above) and separators (below). If you add an express map to your story, your drawn features will use the accent color too.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
