If you are a raindrop falling out of a cloud over the high desert of Northern Arizona along with 99 of your buddies, what is likely to happen to you? Well, recent studies that monitor the water budget for watersheds around the Flagstaff area tell us that about 80 of you will evaporate back up into the clouds, about 15 of you might runoff into a local drainage, and 5 of you will actually make it into the ground to recharge groundwater!Those 15 raindrops who find a drainage to ride down might even make it to the Pacific Ocean, but depending on exactly where you land, your trip might be very different from other raindrops. The map below shows the major drainages for the Flagstaff area, including the boundaries for the Verde River, Little Colorado River and Colorado River watersheds.
