Set in the latter part of the 19th century in a fictional town called Avonlea, Anne of the Green Gables follows the accidental arrival of a precocious 11-year-old orphan, Anne Shirley, at the family homestead of elderly siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. Many mishaps, adventures, and ultimate successes follow Anne as she grows up and finds that family ties can be forged in even the most difficult of times.  A heartwarming story that has provided comfort for generations of readers, Anne of the Green Gables holds themes of growing up, friendship, forgiveness, and living life to its fullest.
