As the Gay Village has become increasingly mainstream and open to heterosexual and cisgender individuals, it has lost many of the characteristics that made it a niche area for gay and queer people. Members of the LGBT community that once made up its core population are leaving the area. Buildings that once hosted LGBT establishments are being replaced by condominiums. The sense of place and belonging that the community once felt is diminishing as the population is replaced by younger residents. One former resident recalls living in the gay village: "the Village was a place where you could like, hang out with your friends, and only really gay people would hang out there." Since the late 1990s, many venues that served the LGBT community closed their doors and were replaced. Icons of Montreal's LGBT community such as the Androgyne bookstore and the entertainment complex Le Bourbon closed. In their place, high-end condominiums appeared.

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
