Late at night on August 26th, 1922, a kitchen was pierced with bullets (29). It was the kitchen of Milton and Anna Grim, residents of Rockingham County who lived outside of Elkton on a farm near Bear Lithia Springs. Sitting at the kitchen table were the two oldest men of the family, Milton, the head of the household, and Albert, his 19-year-old son. They were eating watermelon, having just returned from a week-long shift working as Shopmen at Norfolk and Western in Shenandoah, only a short distance from Bear Lithia Springs (19). Albert Grim sat facing away from the window while his father sat facing towards it. Two gunshots rang out, targeted at the men.In a few seconds, Albert is dead. He has been shot in his back, and it has punctured his heart. Milton Grim moves, but he is soon shot in his neck. Outside, the assailants run into the darkness. (22)

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. Your theme’s accent color is used in both quotes (see above) and separators (below). If you add an express map to your story, your drawn features will use the accent color too.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
