Significant progress was made in communication technology during the 20th century, especially with the introduction of radio and television. By significantly influencing public opinion, spreading propaganda, and strengthening diplomacy, these two media transformed how people received and comprehended information. Radio and television brought people together in ways that had not been possible before, from transmitting messages during World War II to covering significant diplomatic events during the Cold War. This paper examines the ways in which these two media platforms influenced public opinion, disseminated political ideas, and supported international relations during the 20th century.In the 1920s, radio, which had its start in the late 19th century, spread widely as a means of mass communication. Its widespread use by the 1930s made it possible for both individuals and governments to spread news, music, and instructional materials. Radio became an innovative communication tool because of its capacity to deliver real-time updates. During World War II, radio emerged as a key propaganda medium. To spread the word about the regime's policies, Joseph Goebbels' Ministry of Propaganda in Nazi Germany employed radio broadcasts. In the meantime, by providing broadcasts of hope to people in occupied regions, the BBC World Service in Britain was instrumental in destroying Nazi propaganda. The reports from Edward R. Murrow, especially those from London and Berlin, also became essential in shaping global perceptions of the war (Britannica, "Radio"; Skretvedt and Sterling). During wartime, radio proved to be an important medium for fostering international awareness and unity.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
