Africa Decolonization in the 1950s:British West Home Africa was home to some of the continent&apos;s earliest nationalist movements. Beginning in the 1920s, the Western-educated African elite began to organize and call for reform of abuses perpetuated by colonial powers (Britannica). Only after World War War ll, however, did the idea of political independence enter the nationalist discourse (Brittanica). Buoyed by the ideas of liberty proclaimed by the Atlantic Charter and the newly formed United Nations, nationalists formed political parties throughout Africa and attracted mass support with their campaigns for independence (Britannica). A movement beginning in the 20s, it made a name for itself in the 1950s when a sum of African countries gained independence from the great European colonies, most notably Ghana, formally the Gold Coast in 1957(Brittanica). The Ghanaian independence set a chain reaction with decolonization occurring all over West Africa by what you can describe as a nationalist movement and political rebellion against colonial rule (Brittanica). During this period, the Cold War also occurred, which influenced the effect of decolonization. One of the most important members of this revolution was Kwame Nkrumah, who led Ghana to independence from Britain in the later years of the 50s and was also their first president (Brittanica).

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. Quotes use the theme’s title font, but you can also choose one of several different styling options.

Your theme’s accent color is used in both quotes (see above) and separators (below). If you add an express map to your story, your drawn features will use the accent color too.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
