Abstract: The intersection of new media, digital culture, and postmodern aesthetics happens within the domain of fashion, and can be seen through the presence of virtual influencers such as Lil Miquela. As the newest concept marketing, the idea of virtual influencers has built bridges between consumerism and digital construction of identity. These artificially crafted icons have taken the fashion industry by storm since their debuts in 2016 and 2017, creating buzz across the internet about the authenticity of their identities. Virtual influencers are computer-generated figures with dedicated social media accounts where they post content like any real person with their main focus platform being Instagram. These characters are found flaunting brands left and right, endorsing the products. They also speak on current social issues such as feminism and transgender rights. The avatars are not limited to just the digital world, they are seen photographed with real people in real places, as they are simply edited in. This paper explores the audience engagement through the use of visual aesthetics and storytelling techniques used by virtual influencers and their ramifications of digitality on past conceptions of reality and representation. Ethical concerns are examined regarding the commercialization of cyber personas and the faded border between humans and non-humans within the digital space. This paper fosters a deep analysis of the ever-evolving digital culture and its effects on modern society.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
