
Chinese Cultural Revolution Timeline
Summary
The Chinese Cultural Revolution, also known as the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution was lead by Mao Zedong. Throughout this revolution, many people that were in power were overthrown either by their people or by the Red Guards. Mao wanted to preserve the Chinese Socialism hence starting this revolution. The Cultural Revolution lasted for around 10 years and ended when Mao Zedong die with the arrest of the Gang of Four. There was a huge death toll and most of these deaths happened during the Tiananmen Square riot where it became a whole massacure.

The Book, "The Cultural revolution : 1967 in review : four essays" is a primary source by Oksenberg, Michel focuses on the sociopolitical movement by Mao Zedong. It contains four essays that describes what happened throughout the Cultural Revolution. The first essay talks about how Mao Zedong wanted this revolution and what sparked him to go through with it. The second essay describes the roles of the Red Guards. The third essay showed the struggling of the Chinese Communist Party, for example, power. Lastly the fourth essay explained the social and economic impact of the cultural revolution, basically the results of the revolution. This book is available in the Library of Congress and it's a reliable source as it has primary sources from that time era.

This image called, "The new religion" is an image of Mao Zedong and his followers trying to restore the spirit of Chinese Revolution. In this image, Mao's followers are carrying a book which is supposed to resemble the Book about the thoughts of Mao and incenses to show that they believe in Mao. This drawing presents Mao as a Buddha since his followers presented him as a religion. They believed that the Chinese Revolution caused chaos and disorder to the Chinese Education system. This image came from the Library of Congress and it is an important image as it represents how Mao was treated by his's people.
